Issues and Positions
The Libertarian party is the only party that believes that you are the best person capable of making your own decisions and running your own life. The Republican Party and the Democratic Party have been leading this nation away from the principles our nation was founded on. Our founders believed that an America, which limited its involvement in the lives of its citizens, would be most conducive to freedom. Today we find ourselves faced with a growing government and limitation of liberty.
The more government regulates our lives the less freedom we have to exercise. With each law that Congress passes unelected bureaucrats create 18 new regulations with the force of law. In 1996 Congress enacted the Congressional Review Law which requires all agencies to submit to Congress their rules, Congress then has 60 days to block the proposals. More than 14,167 new regulations were passed in 1999, 1998, 1997 and not a single one was rejected. Regardless of the major parties stance on reducing the size and scope of regulation, they refuse to act. The time to act is now. It is time to begin to retake our stolen freedoms and elect representatives that truly want to return the power of government to the people, the Libertarian Party.

Government Size and Waste
Government operates a cornucopia of programs and pork barrel projects that not only waste taxpayers dollars but fly in the face of logic. For example, there are 340 groups funded by the federal government to discourage road building while at the same time spending billion to build roads! So not only do we pay to build highways, we also pay to discourage building them.
Government currently employs 17 million people. That includes civil servants, military, postal workers, contracted employees and grant employees. Government is the largest employer in the nation, and also pays its employees 33% to 50% more than their counterpart in the private sector.

Government Power
We all know that there are certain jobs in government that requires its employees to be armed, but what we are seeing is a growing empowerment by government. There are 45 federal agencies that arm their employees, nearly 60,000 people. Some of these employees are poultry inspectors, park rangers and disaster aid workers. Also agents from the Small Business Administration, NASA, Department of Education, Fish and Wildlife and Veterans Affairs also carry firearms.
Taxation
The current tax system we find our selves under, between federal, state, local, sales, excise etc., takes nearly 50% of our incomes. In 1913 the Income Tax was established and the code was a mere 15 pages long, today it is 10,000 pages long. How are average Americans supposed to follow a law that is 10,000 pages long! To give you an idea of how large that is, the average novel is 250 pages. The tax code would equal 40 novels pilled on top of each other and be about 6 feet tall! If that does not show you we need to throw the Income Tax system out the window and be done with it for good now, will you wait until it is 20,000 pages long?
With the myriad of income, sales, property and other hidden taxes, we pay government $1 for every we earn and work half the year just for them.
That is not the vision our founders had for a free and prosperous nation. We live in a socialized country and it is strangling our liberties and we must break the chains that bind us, and bind down government the way the constitution intended!
